A heroic dog ran nearly four miles to find help after their owner’s truck plunged into a ravine Sunday, according to a news release issued by the Baker County Sheriff’s Office.
Brandon Garrett of Halfway, Oregon, and his four dogs were traveling north on US Forest Service Road 39 on Sunday, June 2, in Baker County, Oregon, when Garrett lost control of his vehicle and went off the road into the riverbank below.
Luckily, one of Garrett’s pups knew what to do. After exiting the vehicle, Garrett’s dog Blue traveled nearly four miles through the night to where Garrett’s family anxiously waited in their camper. From there, members of Blue and Garrett’s family returned to the scene of the accident to locate Garrett’s truck and call for help. Because of the rough terrain, family members were unable to get to Garrett and the crash site on their own.
But thanks to Blue’s heroic actions, Garrett and his three other dogs were found alive in a “steep, scrubby area” by the Baker County Sheriff’s Office, Baker County Search and Rescue, Pine Valley Rural Fire District and Halfway EMS in the morning. Monday, June 3. Two dogs suffered several broken bones but are expected to be OK. Garrett was airlifted to an Idaho hospital and later released. He is “broken but on the mend”, according to his brother.
No pictures of the dogs have been released yet, but the other dogs are said to be Blue and Garrett pit bull mixesaccording to the statement of a person close to the family. No surprise, because we know one more pit bullwho reported help from a passerby and saved his owner’s life just a few years ago.
Although there are several types of pit bull breeds, what unites them is the loyalty they have to their owners. If you’re looking for a loyal dog to add to your household—perhaps one that would run four miles in the dark to help you out—check out our listing 10 most loyal dog breeds.
Blue, you are a very good dog!
