The tallest dog in the world died a few days after becoming the record holder

Just days after being named the world’s tallest living dog, Kevin the Great Dane unfortunately passed away, according to the Guinness Book of Records press release published on Monday.

“We are deeply saddened to learn that Kevin has passed away suddenly following unexpected health complications,” a Guinness spokesperson said.

Kevin fell ill shortly after his new title was announced and tragically passed away during an unplanned operation. Tracy Wolfe, his owner, is the manager of a local veterinary clinic, and her team personally attended to Kevin.

“Tracey and the team at the veterinary clinic where she works did everything they could to save Kevin after he became ill,” added the spokesperson. “Our thoughts and support are with the Wolfe family as they navigate this difficult time.”

Kevin won his title of tallest dog in the world measuring 3 feet, 2 inches from paws to withers, which is about the size of a human toddler and 6 inches taller than the average Great Dane. And when he stood on his hind legs, Kevin was almost 7 feet tall!

“We’re so glad he was able to break the record and have that light on him,” Wolfe said. “He absolutely adored the attention. I wish these giant breeds, and all dogs, could live longer but they. There’s never enough time.”

Rest in peace, Kevin. Here’s hoping you make lots of giant canine friends in the sky.
