Viva Raw Recalls selected pet foods due to the potential risk of listeria



Viva Raw LLC is voluntary recall lots of five contaminated turkey pet food recipes Listeria monocytogenesa foodborne pathogen that can cause illness in both pets and humans.

The recall involves the following five products, all part Lot #21244which were delivered to customers between May 16 and June 28, 2024:

  • Viva Turkey for Dogs Ground: Lot #21244
  • Viva Turkey for Dogs Chunked: Lot #21244
  • Viva Turkey for Cats: Lot #21244
  • Viva Pure Turkey: Lot #21244
  • Viva Beef & Turkey for Puppies: Lot #21244

The batch number of each affected product is printed in blue on the left side of each product label. If you find that you have products from Lot 21244, please contact Viva Raw for a refund via email info@vivarawpets.com before safely disposing of the remaining product.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends that people not touch contaminated food products with their bare hands. For disposal, place contaminated food in a sealed plastic bag while wearing gloves and throw it in the trash. Disinfect all areas that may have come into contact with the contaminated product.

To date, no disease has been reported, although it is rare, Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in pets. Infected pets may be asymptomatic or have the following symptoms:

People infected with Listeria monocytogenes nausea, vomiting, pain, fever and diarrhea may occur.

If you or your pet has been exposed to one of these contaminated products, you should contact your veterinarian and/or health care provider as soon as possible to prevent the spread of foodborne pathogens to others.
