Listeria and salmonella risks

As of September 23, 2024, there is. there have been no illnesses associated with these product batches. However, if your pet has consumed any of the affected products, monitor both your pet and the rest of your household for the following symptoms, which could mean Listeria or Salmonella infection.

Listeria

FDA says Listeria it rarely causes disease in dogs, but as carriers they can transmit it to humans, who are more likely to be affected.

Symptoms of exposure Listeria monocytogenes in humans include:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Pain in the muscles
  • Stiff neck
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Diarrhea
  • Confusion
  • Loss of balance
  • Convulsions

Salmonella

Pets infected with Salmonella may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, feveror vomit. If your pet has consumed the affected products and exhibits any of these symptoms, the FDA recommends contacting your veterinarian.

Healthy people who come into contact with Salmonella may show symptoms such as:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea or bloody diarrhea
  • Abdominal cramps
  • Fever

In rare cases, Salmonella in humans it can cause arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation and urinary tract symptoms.
