The scariest holiday of the year is almost here, and our tails are wagging with excitement over it all tricks and treats to come Whether you prefer to celebrate by watching a scary thriller or a fun family movie, you’re sure to recognize a few of these classic Halloween movie characters.

Thackery Binx from Hocus Pocus: Bombay
Of course, we start things off with the obvious – Thackery Binx from Hocus Pocus is definitely a Bombay cat. Similar to a miniature living room panther, the Bombay breed is protected by a shiny, short coat black coat and golden yellow eyes. Binx also share the same strong family ties as Bombay cats: they are highly social cats who prefer to be in the company of people.
The Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus: The Siamese
While we’re on the subject Hocus Pocusthe three Sanderson sisters would be Siamese cats. Not only does their wizardly behavior put them in the cat category, but the Siamese breed is also known for being a bit mischievous. Leave them alone and they will knock your vase off the shelf. They are incredibly smart, but with their intelligence comes willfulness – they prefer to do things their own way, just like Winifred, Mary and Sarah.
Coraline by Coraline: Kerry Blue Terrier

This may be the first time you’ve heard of a Kerry blue terrierbut they are definitely similar to the fierce adventurer Coraline Jones. Just like the legendary 11-year-old girl, Kerry Blue Terriers need a lot of attention from their family. Boredom can get them into trouble (finding “another world” for Coraline, chewing the couch for Kerries). They are strong-willed and intelligent dogs with a beautiful blond coat; a perfect match to Coraline’s signature blue locks.
Beetlejuice from Beetlejuice: Maine Coon
We admit that this is mainly due to looks because the temperaments of Beetlejuice and Maine coon the breeds do not match completely. However, Maine coon cats are one of the most common breeds that can have a striped patterned coat, similar to that iconic black and white suit from the movie. Plus, Maine coons have long coats and furry ears reminiscent of Beetlejuice’s wild hair. We will say that, at least, Maine coons are similar in character to – um – you know who they are not big on personal space.
Snoopy from It’s the Big Pumpkin, Charlie Brown: Beagle
Is this too easy? Snoopy is acting Peanuts‘ It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brownwhich makes him a Halloween movie star in our eyes. He is perhaps the most famous beagle in the world, inspired by Charles Schultz the family dogSpikes. And they do a great job of matching the Snoopy character to a real beagle – he’s friendly, loud, loves to play and is great with kids and animals (hello, Woodstock!).
Pig-Pen from It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown: Newfoundland
Okay, we know he’s just a side character It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brownbut how could we resist making this connection? Pig-Pen is famous for being surrounded by a cloud of dirt, and Newfoundland dogs similarly can’t help but pick up dirt and debris wherever they go. That’s thanks to their thick, two-pile coat that grabs mud, ruts, twigs, leaves – basically anything and everything. But hey, they’re both cute enough to be worth the mess.
Aggie Cromwell from Halloweentown: Ragdoll
Agatha “Aggie” Cromwell is the protagonist of the witches Halloweentownportrayed by the late Debbie Reynolds, whose good-natured spirit makes her a fan favorite, just like ragdoll cat breed. One of the best qualities of a ragdoll is its gentle, patient nature that makes it amazing with kids. Aggie in the film is devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren, so it’s quite clear that she would be a ragdoll.
Jenny from Monster House: The Abyssinian
If you’ve ever seen the movie Monster Housethen you know how smart and brave our protagonist Jenny is. In fact, she is like one of them the most popular cat breeds in the world, the Abyssinian (and not only because of her striking ginger hair). The Abyssinian breed is a sharp-witted, naturally curious explorer. Just like Jenny, their intelligence leads them to new discoveries and inaccessible places (like, say, a house that tries to eat people).
Sparky from Frankenweenie: Bull Terrier
Remember Sparky, Victor Frankenstein’s undead dog? Victor brings his beloved bull terrier he comes back to life after being hit by a car in the movie Frankenweenie. Sparky is just as energetic and loyal as the typical bull terrier breed – even a bit mischievous at times. They also thrive as the only pets in the house and have strong prey drivewhich means their cats aren’t always the best furriers (just ask Sparky’s nemesis, Mr. Whiskers).
Casper by Casper: Japanese Bobtail
We just had to compare Casper, a friendly genie with a breed with similar love tendencies: Japanese bobtail. They are sociable, affectionate and get along well with children and families. Not to mention, Japanese Bobtails are named for their bushy tails that grow no longer than three inches, giving these cats (especially the white ones) an uncanny resemblance to Casper.
Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family: Sphynx
We’re just going to come out and say it: Wednesday Addams can be a little disturbing, as well sphinx cat if you are not used to seeing them. The relatively uncommon breed of sphinx is striking and completely unmistakable, thanks to its hairlessness. They have a giddy look, just like Wednesday, and they’re not shy about making their point known.
Cousin Itt from the Addams Family: Yorkshire Terrier (Yorkie)
Branching out on the Addams family tree, you’ll find Cousin Itto, who could really be mistaken for Long Hair Yorkshire terrier he wears a hat. His light brown locks fall straight to the floor. While even the Addams family doesn’t know much about their old cousin Itto, we do know that he is extremely smart, just like a Yorkie, and aware of his surroundings.
Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas: The Dalmatian
Finally, what else would Jack Skellington be but a Dalmatian? First of all, he is tall, slim and black and white, just like spotted dogs. He also shows a high level of intelligence and wants to work hard to impress the people around him. Dalis are also known for being silly and exciting, much like how Jack behaves when he discovers Christmas and begins to plan one of his own. Both have good intentions and hearts of gold, even when things don’t always go according to plan.
